This Amsterdam Tosca is a truly international staging.
Barrie Kosky – a world-renowned Australian director with Jewish roots – is most closely associated with the German opera community. (The Komische Oper Berlin, which he directs, was named the best opera theater of the 2012/2013 season by the critics of the opera magazine “Opernwelt” immediately after his first season as director.)
The role of Tosca will be played by Swedish soprano Malin Byström, who has performed at the world’s most prestigious opera houses. The role of Mario Cavaradossi is played by American Joshua Guerrero, and the demonic Baron Scarpia is played by Armenian Gevorg Hakobyan.

Kosky is famous for his unconventional, but always in line with the composer’s ideas, staging. In the Tosca we will see, he focused on the darkest sides of all (!) characters.
Musical direction was provided by the young Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti – principal conductor of the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera.
