Carl Orff’s legendary cantata Carmina Burana—renowned for its monumental choruses and expressive power—will this time be seen on stage as a contemporary ballet. The choreography is by Edward Clug, one of the most outstanding European choreographers of the younger generation, who brings a new, dark, and ascetic stage form to this classical masterpiece.

In the interpretation by the Slovenian National Theatre Ballet in Maribor, with the participation of the SNT Maribor Symphony Orchestra and Opera Chorus, Carmina Burana becomes an emotionally charged and intense spectacle in which music, movement, and light together create a shared theatrum mundi—a theatrical world envisioned by Orff nearly a century ago.

Under the baton of Simon Krečič, the performance also features soloists:

Nina Dominko (soprano), Martin Sušnik (tenor), and Davor Nekjak (baritone).

On stage unfolds a story of fate’s whims, the fleeting joy of life, and the fine line between freedom and temptation—rooted in the drama of medieval texts and expressed through the dancers’ bodies in Clug’s striking interpretation.
