One of the latest productions by the internationally admired Robert Wilson. A one-of-a-kind theatrical creator who is able to combine music and text with gesture, dance, painting, sculpture and even the aesthetics of furnishings – into a perfectly unified whole. Lighting effects, which, of course, he directs himself, also play an important role in his stagings.

The performance of Turandot that we will show in the Gardens has already delighted audiences on a few opera stages around the world. The recording we will present was made at the National Opera of Paris.
Each of the three main characters is created by an artist from a different country, which probably translates into the expression of the characters in this Turandot. The title role is played by a Swedish woman, Kalaf is played by an American, and Liù is played by an Albanian.
The cast also includes Pole Maciej Kwaśnikowski, singing the part of one of the mandarins. Maciej was a student at the opera academy of the Grand Theater – National Opera, through which he further honed his skills at analogous opera studios at the Met, the Salzburg Festival and just the Paris Opera.

Puccini’s compatriot conducts. Marco Armiliato is a specialist in Italian repertoire. Under his baton, the Nessun dorma aria, which Turandot audiences await most, is sure to sound as the composer would have wished.
