[…] There were no coughs. There was no murmuring. Silence, as if enchanted. The audience listened as if they didn’t want to miss a single sound. The concert ended with minutes of applause and cheers. […] Norbert Bödecker, “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung HAZ”
Between baroque, pop and a touch of jazz, a unique trio comes together to put a form of musical “lament” at the center of their program. But an extraordinary lament, in which each listener can find a piece of themselves.
During the more than hour-long recital, inspired by Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata, among others, the artists serve the audience an exciting palette of shades, flavors and rhythms, creating an exquisite musical fusion. To this end, Polish soprano Dorota Szczepanska, along with Israeli lutenist Alon Sariel and German jazz bassist Peter Schwebs, have undertaken an intensive search to present a thrilling mix that crosses genre boundaries.
This is how the concert is made up of several intertwined chapters that show lament as a timeless phenomenon, diverse and full of color and nuance.
The creative and tasteful arrangements of the performers make it seem natural that Handel, Monteverdi, Purcell or Stradella become musical companions to Sting, Adele, Bob Telson, or songs from the computer game.
And renowned Polish film composer Krzysztof A. Janczak, composed especially for this project, “Miranda’s Lament,” based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” creating a new, perfectly fitting element of the repertoire.
