About us
The "Music Gardens" Festival was established in 2001 in Warsaw. It is organized by the "Music Gardens" Foundation in July and offers about 30 events, attracting about 40-50 thousand spectators every year. Its objective is to present significant audio-visual productions of famous operas, ballets and films on art and nature. These presentations take place in a tent for about one thousand spectators, specially constructed at the courtyard of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
The festival's programme includes a series of concerts of 20th century and contemporary music called "Passage" as well as special events with large symphony orchestras, choirs and ensembles, such as: Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, National Symphonic Orchestra of Polish Radio and TV in Katowice, Sinfonia Iuventus, Accentus Choir from Paris. In addition, the "Music Gardens" Festival organizes special events for children.
In 2007 the festival's main theme was "Vienna in the Music Gardens" and it was organized in coproduction with the Wiener MozartJahr and EuroArts. In 2008 the festival's programme was dedicated to French culture on the occasion of the French Presidency in the European Union. The opening concert of the festival was organized together with the Ambassador of France who invited guests, including the diplomatic corps.
The main theme of the "Music Gardens – Northern Gardens" Festival 2009 was Scandinavian music and culture on the occasion of the Swedish Presidency in the European Union. The opening concert was dedicated to Ingmar Bergman: "Laterna Musica – Bergman and Music" was a multimedia performance comprising a composition of stills, movie clips and live music.
This year's edition of the "Music Gardens" Festival will be dedicated to life and work of Fryderyk Chopin due to the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. The festival's programme will also iclude films on Belgian music and culture on the occasion of the Belgian presidency in the UE which begins on July 1st.
The "Music Gardens" Festival is organized by the "Music Gardens" Foundation and the Royal Castle in Warsaw. It is financed by the City of Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
